Japanese-Style Deep-Fried Shrimp

Garlic and paprika seasoned shrimp, coated in panko crumbs for the crispiest deep-fried shrimp.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound medium shrimp, peeled (tails left on) and deveined
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup panko crumbs
  • 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
  • In a bowl, season shrimp with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Combine flour and paprika in a shallow bowl. Set up eggs in a separate bowl and panko in a third bowl.
  • Preheat oil in a deep fryer or deep skillet to 375°F (190°C) until hot and shimmering.
  • Coat each shrimp in flour mixture, then egg, and finish with panko crumbs.
  • In batches, fry the shrimp in hot oil until beautifully golden, approximately 5 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to paper towels to drain, then serve.
