Crispy homemade wontons filled with savory ginger-garlic pork, fried to perfection.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (16 ounce) pork tenderloin, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger root
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 dash soy sauce
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 (12 ounce) package square wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg white, beaten
  • 2 quarts peanut oil for frying
Instructions:
  • In a food processor, add pork, ginger, garlic, green onion, lime juice, crushed red pepper, sesame oil, and soy sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Pulse until pork is minced to a ground beef consistency.
  • Take the wonton wrappers and spread them out on a clean surface. Put 1 tablespoon of the pork mixture in the center of each wrapper. Dampen the edges of the wrappers with water, fold them over the filling to create a triangle, and press them shut to seal. Brush each wonton with egg white.
  • In a large pot, pour in the peanut oil and preheat to 365 degrees F (180 degrees C).
  • Carefully place the wontons into the hot oil and fry until they turn a beautiful golden brown, approximately 5 minutes. Then, transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
