Tender cube steak smothered in savory pan gravy for a comforting, nostalgic meal.
Ingredients:
  • 0.25 cup flour
  • 0.25 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 6 cube steaks
  • 2 tablespoons butter, or as needed
  • 1 cup milk, or to taste
Instructions:
  • In a shallow bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Spread 1 tablespoon of the mixture onto a plate and coat each cube steak thoroughly by pressing into the flour mixture.
  • Lay the breaded steaks on a flat surface and use a meat tenderizer to pound each side several times, ensuring the flour adheres well to the steak. Repeat the process to fully incorporate the flour mixture into the meat.
  • Heat butter in a large skillet until sizzling. Sear steaks until golden brown on both sides, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Remove steaks to a plate, cover with foil to keep warm, and set skillet aside to cool.
  • In the skillet over low heat, pour enough milk to cover the bottom. Whisk in 1 tablespoon of flour mixture until the gravy reaches a cream-like consistency, about 10 to 15 minutes. Add more flour mixture as needed to thicken. Return steak scraps to the skillet and season the gravy with salt and black pepper.
  • Plate the sizzling steaks and generously smother them with savory gravy.
