Tender cube steaks fried with mushrooms, onions, and savory gravy, served over noodles or rice with crusty bread.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 pounds cube steaks, pounded thin and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1.5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans stewed tomatoes
  • 1 pound mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 (1.2 ounce) package brown gravy mix
  • 1 (12 ounce) package egg noodles
Instructions:
  • Warm up the oil in a Dutch oven on medium heat.
  • Coat steak strips with flour, shaking off any extra.
  • In batches, sear the steak in hot oil until golden brown, then transfer to a warm platter.
  • Add the browned steak back to the Dutch oven and combine with stewed tomatoes, mushrooms, onion, gravy mix, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then simmer over low heat for 30 to 45 minutes.
  • About 20 minutes before steak is done, boil a large pot of water. Cook egg noodles in boiling water until al dente, 8 to 10 minutes. Drain noodles.
  • Plate the Swiss steak on a bed of noodles.
