Dinosaur-themed cake made with Betty Crocker™ cake mix, vanilla frosting, and fun yellow candy decorations.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Yellow Cake Mix or 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Devil's Food Cake Mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • Tray or cardboard (18x14 inches), covered with wrapping paper and plastic food wrap or foil
  • 2 tubs (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Vanilla Frosting
  • Betty Crocker™ green gel food color
  • Assorted yellow round candies (candy-coated chocolate candies, candy coating wafers, chewy round candies)
  • Chocolate chips
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans) and grease two 8- or 9-inch round cake pans. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to combine cake mix, water, oil, and eggs on low speed for 30 seconds, then medium speed for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl occasionally. Divide batter between pans and bake according to package instructions. Once cooled, freeze the cake for 45 minutes for easier handling.
  • Slice the cake in half lengthwise to create two half-circles. Shape one half-circle into a head and the other into a tail. Cut a 1-inch slice from the edge of the remaining cake and remove a small inverted U-shaped piece from the cut edge. Place the body on a tray and position the head and tail pieces next to it.
  • Transfer the frosting to a large bowl and mix in food coloring until you achieve the desired green hue. Use a small amount of frosting to stick the cake pieces together. Apply a thin layer of frosting to the cake to seal in crumbs. Chill the cake in the refrigerator or freezer for 30 to 60 minutes to allow the frosting to set. Proceed to frost the entire cake.
  • Garnish with vibrant yellow candies and place chocolate chips as eyes. Keep covered loosely.
