Prepare make-ahead creamy homemade mashed potatoes for ultimate convenience and irresistible taste. Succulent!
Ingredients:
  • 3 pounds potatoes (about 9 medium), peeled and cut into pieces
  • 6 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup whipping (heavy) cream
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Dash of pepper
Instructions:
  • In a 3-quart saucepan, combine potatoes and garlic, cover with water (salted if desired), and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer covered for 20 to 25 minutes until tender. Drain the potatoes, then return to the pan and gently dry over low heat. Use a potato masher or electric mixer to mash until smooth and no lumps remain.
  • In a 1-quart saucepan, gently warm milk, whipping cream, butter, salt, and pepper over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until the butter melts. Set aside and refrigerate 1/4 cup of the mixture. Gradually add the remaining milk mixture in small increments to the potatoes, mashing after each addition, until the potatoes are airy and fluffy. The exact amount of milk needed may vary based on the type of potatoes used.
  • Prepare the casserole dish by greasing it. Spoon the potatoes into the dish, cover it, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Pour the milk mixture over the potatoes. Bake without covering for 40 to 45 minutes until hot. Stir the potatoes before serving.
