Crunchy outside, chewy inside cookies.
Ingredients:
  • 3 eggs, beaten well
  • 3 cups brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons anise seed
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • 4.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and generously grease 2 baking sheets.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs and brown sugar until creamy. Gently fold in anise seed and salt to the mixture.
  • Combine baking soda with hot water, then incorporate it into the egg mixture. Mix in the flour until a dough forms. Shape the dough into 36 small balls.
  • In a wide, shallow dish, spread white sugar. Coat cookie dough balls in the sugar and place them on prepared baking sheets about 1 inch apart.
  • Bake until the edges are crispy, for around 10 minutes in a preheated oven.
