Deliciously spiced apple hand pies - perfect for snacking or elegant dining.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups apple pie filling, or as needed
  • 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon, or more to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 (9 inch) refrigerated pie crusts, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar, or to taste
  • salt to taste
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) and cover a rimmed baking sheet with nonstick foil.
  • Combine apple pie filling, 3 tablespoons of cinnamon, and allspice in a bowl, ensuring they are thoroughly mixed. In a separate small bowl, lightly whisk together the egg and water.
  • Carefully cut each pie crust into quarters to yield 8 pieces of dough. Place 4 pieces on the baking sheet. Fill each piece with about 1/4 cup of filling, leaving a 1/4-inch border. Top with another crust, seal the edges by pressing them together, and crimp with a fork. Make 3 slits in the top of each pie for ventilation using a sharp knife.
  • Coat top crusts and edges with a shiny egg wash. Sprinkle a sweet and savory mixture of cinnamon, sugar, and salt on top for extra flavor.
  • Bake until golden brown, about 15-18 minutes in the preheated oven.
  • Allow it to cool on a rack for a minimum of 15 minutes before serving.
