Irresistible apple pie bars with caramel-apple filling, crumbly topping, and a decadent caramel drizzle. Perfect for pleasing a crowd!
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 5 Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • In a food processor, blend flour, 1 cup butter, 3/4 cup white sugar, egg, baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt until crumbs form easily into dough. Press 3/4 of the dough into the pan evenly and firmly using your hands.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt 3 tablespoons of butter until sizzling. Toss in apples, brown sugar, 1/2 cup of white sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Cook and gently stir until the apples are tender, around 5 minutes. Add cornstarch gradually until the sauce thickens to your liking.
  • Spread the caramel-apple mixture evenly over the crust using a spatula. Sprinkle the remaining dough crumbs on top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the top is golden brown, for about 30 to 40 minutes. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes, then slice into bars.
