Quick and easy homemade graham cracker crust for all your delicious desserts!
Ingredients:
  • 12 rectangular graham cracker sheets (about 6 ounces), broken into pieces equaling  about 1 1/2 cups
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • Optional:
  • 2 teaspoons finely grated lemon or orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
  • Optional: If baking the crust, preheat the oven to 350°F and place a rack in the middle position.
  • For the crumbs: Use a food processor to finely grind the graham crackers to yield approximately 1 1/2 cups. Alternatively, place the broken graham crackers in a sealed heavy-duty plastic freezer bag and crush them into fine crumbs using a rolling pin.
  • Prepare the crust: Combine butter, sugar, salt, and optional orange zest and vanilla (if desired) in a food processor. Pulse until mixed.
  • Firmly press the crust into the pie pan: Spread the crumbs evenly over the bottom and sides of the pan, using your fingers to compact them. Use a dry measuring cup covered with plastic wrap to evenly press and compact the crumbs in the pan, starting with the sides. Ensure the bottom crumbs are even and compact by gently tamping them down.
  • For a quick and ready-to-use crust, skip baking and place the assembled crust in the freezer for 15 minutes to firm up the butter. Fill as directed in the recipe afterwards.
  • For a toasty flavor, bake the crust in the center of a preheated oven for 10 minutes or until edges are slightly browned. Cool the pie pan on a rack to room temperature before using as directed in your recipe.
