Quick and easy donuts made with pantry staples for soft, cakey deliciousness without the long wait.
Ingredients:
  • 0.375 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 quart oil for deep frying
  • 0.5 cup confectioners' sugar for dusting
Instructions:
  • Combine milk and vinegar, allowing them to sit for a few minutes until they thicken.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together sugar and shortening until creamy. Mix in the egg and vanilla until fully incorporated. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the sugar mixture, alternating with the milk mixture.
  • Roll out dough on a floured surface to 1/3-inch thickness. Cut out donuts with a donut cutter and allow to rest for 10 minutes.
  • Warm the oil in a spacious deep skillet until it reaches 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Fry donuts in hot oil until golden brown on each side, about 1 to 2 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar while warm and serve.
