Make homemade gyros with this easy recipe for a taste of Greek street food anytime!
Ingredients:
  • cooking spray
  • 3 pounds ground lamb
  • 0.5 cup Greek seasoning
  • 1 large egg
  • 12 (6 inch) pita breads, warmed
  • 1 head iceberg lettuce, finely shredded
  • 5 medium Roma tomatoes, diced
  • 1 medium red onion, diced
  • 0.5 cup tzatziki sauce, or more to taste
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a warm 275 degrees F (135 degrees C) and generously coat a large loaf pan with cooking spray.
  • In a bowl, thoroughly mix the lamb, Greek seasoning, and egg until well combined, making sure to overmix for optimal flavor. Press the mixture firmly into the loaf pan, ensuring there are no air pockets under the meat. Cover with foil before cooking.
  • Bake until the center reaches 160 degrees F (70 degrees C) on an instant-read thermometer, approximately 2 hours.
  • Cover the dish and set aside to rest for 15-20 minutes until the excess grease is absorbed.
  • Slice the cooked meat thinly after removing it from the pan.
  • Warm the pitas, then generously fill them with the juicy meat as the star of the show. Layer with crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes, fresh onion, and a dollop of creamy tzatziki sauce. Enjoy right away for the ultimate satisfaction.
