Decadent Italian dessert made with ladyfingers, creamy filling, and fresh berries. Perfect for preparing ahead of time.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons grated lemon peel (1 medium)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 containers (8 oz each) mascarpone cheese, room temperature
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 1/2 packages (7.1 oz each) ladyfingers
  • 3 cups mixed fresh berries, rinsed
Instructions:
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, bring granulated sugar, water, lemon peel, and lemon juice to a boil. Let it boil until the sugar is fully dissolved. Take the saucepan off the heat and allow the lemon syrup to cool completely.
  • Combine mascarpone, cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla in a large bowl and beat with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
  • Sprinkle half of the ladyfingers on the bottom of an ungreased 8-inch square (2-quart) glass baking dish. Drizzle generously with a quarter of the lemon syrup. Evenly spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Add half of the berries on top, then brush with lemon syrup. Repeat layering until all ingredients are used up.
  • Chill for a minimum of 2 hours or preferably overnight before slicing into 8 equal squares.
