Celebrate with a show-stopping guitar-shaped cake, perfect for music enthusiasts and special events!
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Yellow Cake Mix or 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Devil's Food Cake Mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • Tray or cardboard (19x11 inches), covered with wrapping paper and plastic food wrap or foil
  • 1 1/4 cups from 1 tub (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Chocolate Frosting
  • Black food color
  • 2 3/4 cups from 2 tubs (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Vanilla Frosting
  • Betty Crocker™ gel food color, as desired for guitar
  • 4 pieces black licorice coil, uncoiled, or string licorice
  • 4 small chewy fruit candies in desired color
  • 6 chewy fruit-flavored gumdrops (not sugar coated) in desired color
  • 2 candy-coated tropical fruit candies in desired color
Instructions:
  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (or 325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Grease a 13x9-inch pan. 2. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to blend the cake mix, water, oil, and eggs for 30 seconds on low speed and then 2 minutes on medium speed. Scrape the bowl occasionally. 3. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake according to the box instructions for a 13x9-inch pan. 4. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a cooling rack. Let the cake cool completely for about 1 hour. 5. For easier handling, refrigerate or freeze the cake for 30 to 60 minutes until firm.
  • 1. Combine chocolate frosting and black food color in a medium bowl to create black frosting. 2. In a small bowl, mix 1/3 cup of vanilla frosting with black food color to make gray frosting. 3. Place gray frosting and 2/3 cup of white vanilla frosting in separate resealable plastic freezer bags and seal them. Cut a small corner off each bag. 4. In another medium bowl, blend the remaining vanilla frosting with your desired food color to achieve the guitar color.
  • Trim the rounded top off the cake to create a level surface using a serrated knife. Place the cake cut side down on the work surface. Use the template provided to cut the cake into specified pieces. Arrange the cake pieces on a tray according to the diagram, securing them to the tray with a small amount of frosting.
  • Smooth a thin layer of guitar frosting over the top and sides of the guitar body to lock in the crumbs. Then, spread a thin layer of black frosting over the top and sides of the guitar neck and headstock. Chill the cake in the refrigerator or freezer for 30 to 60 minutes to allow the frosting to set.
  • Cover the entire cake with the same color frosting. If preferred, transfer any remaining black frosting to a resealable plastic freezer bag, snip a small corner off the bag to use for piping frosting. To lengthen the guitar neck by 1 to 2 inches onto the guitar body, use the black frosting to pipe and fill in the neck. Create a contrasting design on the guitar body with white vanilla frosting. Pipe a black rectangle about 1 inch from the end of the neck to form the pickup on the white design. Use gray frosting to pipe on frets, bridge, and any additional accents desired. Use black licorice for the strings and place small fruit candies at the ends of the strings. Gumdrops can be added for the tuning pegs and tropical fruit candies for the buttons on the body. Store the cake loosely covered.
