Sweet and tangy pulled pork with molasses, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 onion, thickly sliced
  • 6 pounds pork butt roast
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 0.5 cup molasses
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 0.5 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions:
  • Drizzle 1 teaspoon of fragrant olive oil into the slow cooker. Layer the sliced onion on the oil, creating a flavorful base. Gently nestle the pork roast on top of the bed of onions, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully as it cooks.
  • Slow cook the pork until it becomes very tender for 8 to 9 hours. Place the roast on a platter, remove the onion and liquid, then shred the pork using two forks.
  • In a stock pot over medium heat, warm up the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Sauté the chopped onion, garlic, and red pepper flakes until the onion turns translucent, approximately 5 minutes. Add shredded pork, tomato paste, molasses, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything well together. Cover and let it simmer until the sauce thickens, stirring occasionally, about 30 minutes.
