Transform Indian fry bread into versatile dish by using for tacos or dessert with cinnamon sugar and hazelnut spread.
Ingredients:
  • 3.25 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 1.5 teaspoons white sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1.5 cups warm water, or as needed
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 cups oil for frying, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Combine 3 cups of flour with yeast, sugar, and salt, whisking them together in a bowl.
  • Combine water and butter in a bowl, then add it to the flour mixture. Mix until a slightly sticky and elastic ball forms. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and a towel, then let it rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, approximately 1 hour.
  • Deflate dough and transfer to a dusted surface. Incorporate 1/4 cup flour as needed. Form into 10 balls.
  • Heat oil to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) in a deep-fryer or large cast iron skillet.
  • Flatten each dough ball into an 8-inch round on a lightly floured surface.
  • Fry each round in hot oil until golden brown on both sides, about 1 to 2 minutes per side. Transfer the fry bread to a baking sheet lined with paper towels and continue with the remaining dough rounds.
