Homemade mac and cheese: simple and delicious, no box mix needed!
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni (7 ounces)
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 1/4 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups fat-free (skim) milk
  • 1 1/2 cups reduced-fat shredded or cubed sharp Cheddar cheese (6 ounces)
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Prepare macaroni according to package instructions.
  • As the macaroni is boiling, gently melt margarine in a 3-quart saucepan over low heat. Whisk in flour, salt, pepper, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth and bubbling. Remove from heat and slowly stir in milk. Bring to a gentle boil while stirring continuously. Boil and stir for 1 minute, then add cheese. Simmer and stir occasionally until cheese is fully melted.
  • Drain the macaroni and stir it delicately into the creamy cheese sauce. Transfer the mixture to a 2-quart casserole dish without greasing it. Bake it uncovered for 20-25 minutes until it's beautifully bubbly.
