Winter family favorite: Decadent macaroni with piping-hot sauce and golden cheese topping.
Ingredients:
  • Melted margarine, to grease
  • 145g (1 cup) dried macaroni pasta
  • 40g (1/2 cup) grated cheddar
  • 375ml (1 1/2 cups) milk
  • 20g (1 tbsp) margarine
  • 10.00 gm cornflour
  • 125ml (1/2 cup) water
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 250°C and brush a 1-litre (4-cup) ovenproof dish with melted margarine to grease it lightly.
  • Prepare the macaroni in a saucepan of salted boiling water according to package instructions until it is cooked to perfection (al dente).
  • In a saucepan, gently heat milk and margarine. Add salt and pepper for seasoning. Mix cornflour and water together, then gradually stir into the saucepan. Bring to a boil while stirring constantly. Reduce heat and simmer gently for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Drain the macaroni, mix with the creamy white sauce, and transfer to a greased dish. Sprinkle with cheddar and bake in a preheated oven until golden, about 10-15 minutes. Serve hot and enjoy!
