Farmhouse-inspired coconut macaroon from the 1930s.
Ingredients:
  • 4 egg whites
  • 0.25 teaspoon almond extract
  • 0.125 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1.25 cups white sugar
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 2.5 cups flaked coconut
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C), then prepare your cookie sheet by greasing and flouring it.
  • Whip egg whites, vanilla extract, almond extract, and cream of tartar in a bowl until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar and whip until stiff. Combine flour, salt, and coconut in another bowl; gently fold into the egg whites. Spoon heaping tablespoonfuls onto the cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 18 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven until slightly golden. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for easy removal.
