Quick and nostalgic gingerbread, reminiscent of Grandma's recipe, moist and delicately spiced. Ready in 10 minutes.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup molasses (not blackstrap)
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup hot water
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and prepare a 9-inch square baking pan by greasing and flouring it.
  • Cream butter in a large bowl using an electric mixer.
  • Incorporate sugar and beat until creamy, for approximately 3 minutes. Integrate egg, followed by molasses until a smooth mixture forms.
  • In a large bowl, gently sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt for a well-balanced blend of flavors.
  • Incorporate dry ingredients into the molasses mixture slowly, mixing well after each addition. Stir in water until smooth.
  • Carefully transfer the cake batter into the pan that has been greased and lined.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Add more time if needed, checking frequently for doneness.
  • Let the gingerbread cool in the pan before enjoying.
