Total Time:
Low-calorie French toast with mixed berries, 13% fewer calories and 50% less sugar than the original recipe.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup fat-free (skim) milk
  • 0.5 cup fat-free egg product
  • 1 tablespoon Truvia® natural sweetener spoonable
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 6 slices flourless sprouted 100% whole grain bread
  • 1.5 cups mixed fresh berries (raspberries, strawberries, blueberries), sliced if large
  • 6 tablespoons frozen (thawed) sugar-free whipped topping
  • Sugar-free maple-flavored syrup, if desired
Instructions:
  • Combine milk, egg product, Truvia® natural sweetener, salt, and vanilla in a medium bowl, beating until smooth. Transfer mixture to a shallow dish and set aside.
  • Preheat a nonstick griddle or skillet over medium heat or until it reaches 350 degrees F. Test the temperature by sprinkling a few drops of water – if bubbles jump around, it's ready. Grease with butter as necessary.
  • Immerse bread in the velvety egg mixture, ensuring each side is enveloped. Transfer to the heated griddle and cook until both sides turn a luscious golden brown, taking 3 to 4 minutes per side.
  • Garnish each slice with a generous helping of 1/4 cup fresh berries, a dollop of whipped topping, and a drizzle of syrup.
