Overnight French toast casserole with savory sausage mixed in for a delicious breakfast twist!
Ingredients:
  • 1 roll (16 oz) maple-flavored bulk pork breakfast sausage
  • 1 round uncut loaf (16 oz) Hawaiian bread, cut into 8 slices
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • Real maple or maple-flavored syrup, if desired
Instructions:
  • In a 10-inch nonstick skillet, sauté the sausage over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it is cooked through; remember to drain excess fat.
  • Prepare a 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish by greasing it with cooking spray. Layer 4 slices of bread in the dish, cutting them to fit if necessary. Spread the sausage over the bread slices and then top with the remaining 4 slices of bread.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, milk, sugar, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla until smooth. Pour the mixture evenly over the bread, cover, and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Remove cover from baking dish and bake for 40 minutes until golden brown and set. Dust with powdered sugar and enjoy with syrup.
