Elevate classic green bean casserole with fresh ingredients for a cozy Thanksgiving serving four.
Ingredients:
  • nonstick cooking spray
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3.5 ounces sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup half-and-half
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 8 ounces fresh green beans, trimmed and snapped
  • 0.33333334326744 cup French-fried onions
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and liberally coat a small casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a skillet over medium-high heat, melt butter. Cook mushrooms until tender for approximately 3 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant for about 30 seconds.
  • Add flour, stir until a smooth paste forms. Gradually pour in half-and-half while stirring to avoid lumps. Mix in soy sauce, salt, and pepper until fully combined. Taste the mushroom gravy and adjust seasoning as desired.
  • Heat the chicken broth in a saucepan over high heat until boiling. Cook the green beans in the boiling broth for 6 minutes. Strain them and stir into the mushroom gravy. Transfer everything to the casserole dish.
  • After baking in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, sprinkle French-fried onions on top and bake for an additional 5 minutes before serving immediately.
