Classic Peach Cobbler: Nostalgic and delicious Grandma-approved recipe.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups sliced fresh peaches
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
  • 0.25 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 0.33333334326744 cup shortening
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) and lightly grease an 8x8 inch square baking dish.
  • Arrange the sliced peaches in the baking dish. Combine 1 cup of sugar with lemon juice, lemon zest, and almond extract. Bake in the oven as you prepare the shortcake (heating the peaches first prevents the dough from getting soggy).
  • In a large bowl, mix flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add shortening and blend until mixture is crumbly. Pour in milk and egg; stir until just combined. Spread over hot peaches and sprinkle with remaining sugar.
  • Bake until the top turns a beautiful golden brown in a preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
