Authentic Italian tomato sauce with fresh plum tomatoes, garlic, basil, and a hint of sugar for an extra pop of flavor.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cloves garlic, peeled and halved
  • 18 plum tomatoes, or more to taste - cored, seeded, and chopped
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 0.125 cup chopped fresh basil
Instructions:
  • In a large saucepan over medium heat, sizzle garlic until golden, then stir in tomatoes, salt, and sugar; cook for 15 minutes.
  • Place a large bowl on a work surface and set a colander inside. Drain the cooked tomatoes in the colander, saving the excess liquid. Blend tomatoes in a food processor until you reach the desired consistency. Return blended tomatoes to the saucepan, add basil, and simmer for 20-30 minutes, thinning the sauce with reserved tomato liquid if needed.
