Highly coveted recipe loved by all the kids in the neighborhood. Unmatched in taste and nostalgia.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 1 egg
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 2 egg whites
  • 0.5 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
Instructions:
  • In a big bowl, mix together the butter, sugar, and corn syrup until smooth. Add the egg. Fold in the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and allspice. Chill dough in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before using.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and grease cookie sheets. Roll the dough out on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut into desired shapes and place the cookies 1 1/2 inches apart on the cookie sheets.
  • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8 minutes. Let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • For the frosting, whisk egg whites and cream of tartar until fluffy. Slowly incorporate sugar while beating until the icing forms stiff peaks. Mix in food coloring if preferred, then pipe onto cooled cookies. This versatile icing can double as a glue for attaching candy decorations.
