Indulgent green bean casserole with homemade gluten-free fried onions for a classic, unforgettable side dish.
Ingredients:
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 large onions, cut in half, thinly sliced (3 cups)
  • 1 1/2 cups milk or buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup Bisquick™ Gluten Free mix
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 bags (12 oz each) frozen cut green beans, cooked
  • 1 can (18 oz) Progresso™ Vegetable Classics creamy mushroom soup
  • 2 teaspoons gluten-free soy sauce
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine onions and milk in a bowl; set aside. In a deep fryer or 4-quart Dutch oven, heat oil (2 inches) to 375°F.
  • In a resealable plastic food storage bag, combine Bisquick, salt, and pepper. Drain onions and add them to the bag. Shake well to coat the onions. Remove onions from the bag, shaking off any excess coating. Gently fry half of the onions in oil for 2 to 4 minutes until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and repeat with the remaining onions. Allow onions to stand while preparing the bean mixture.
  • Combine soup, soy sauce, pepper, cooked green beans, and 1 1/2 cups of onions in an ungreased 3-quart casserole dish. Bake for 25-30 minutes until hot and bubbly. Sprinkle the remaining onions on top during the last 5 minutes of baking.
