Create a stunning aquarium centerpiece with Cheerios® in just 40 minutes.
Ingredients:
  • Glue or tape
  • Construction paper (any color), if desired
  • Large empty jar (such as a peanut butter or maraschino cherry jar)
  • Green pipe cleaners (chenille stems)
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Cheerios™ cereal
  • Shells and/or rocks
  • Nylon fishing line
  • Darning needle
  • Gummy candy fish
Instructions:
  • If desired, decorate the jar lid by attaching construction paper with glue.
  • Wrap a pipe cleaner around a pencil, then remove the pencil. Stretch out the coils to create wavy seaweed. Cut the coiled pipe cleaner into several pieces - bend a 1/2-inch foot onto each one. Cluster several seaweed pieces together at the foot and attach to the inside bottom of the jar using glue or tape.
  • Fill the jar with cereal until it reaches about 1 inch from the top. Place shells and/or rocks on top of the cereal.
  • 1. String a darning needle with fishing line. 2. Thread each fish onto the fishing line using the needle. 3. Adjust the length by holding the fish up to the bowl or jar. 4. Secure each line to the inside of the jar lid with tape.
  • Gently place the fish into the jar and seal with the lid.
