Experience the delicious aroma of a classic pizza recipe in your own kitchen.
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 package regular or fast-acting dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour or Better for Bread® bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon olive or vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • Cooking spray to grease bowl
  • 1 can (8 oz) pizza sauce
Instructions:
  • 1. Heat water in a 1-quart saucepan until it reaches 105°F to 115°F. Dissolve yeast in the warm water in a large bowl. Stir in half the flour, oil, salt, and sugar. Gradually add the remaining flour in 1/4 cup increments until the dough is easy to handle.
  • Lightly dust a countertop or large cutting board with flour. Transfer the dough onto the floured surface. Knead the dough by folding it towards you, then pushing it away with a rocking motion using the heels of your hands. Rotate the dough a quarter turn and repeat this process. Knead for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and springy, adding more flour to the surface if necessary. Grease a large bowl with cooking spray. Place the dough in the bowl, turning to coat all sides with the spray. Loosely cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place for 20 minutes.
  • Press your fist gently into the dough to deflate it. Loosely cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, but no longer than 48 hours. If the dough doubles in size during refrigeration, gently deflate it by pushing your fist into it.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F and adjust the rack to the middle position. Place the dough on an ungreased 12-inch pizza pan. Gently shape the dough into a 12-inch round, making the edges slightly thicker than the center. Spread pizza sauce evenly, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Add your choice of cheese, hamburger, Italian sausage, or pepperoni toppings.
  • Bake until the crust turns a beautiful golden brown and the cheeses are melted and lightly browned, about 15 to 20 minutes.
