Indulge in the timeless perfection of a classic dessert that will have your taste buds dancing with delight.
Ingredients:
  • 1 3/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup cold butter or margarine
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 to 6 tablespoons whipping cream
  • Additional 1 tablespoon whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoons white decorator sugar crystals or granulated sugar
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Combine flour, 3 tablespoons of sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Add butter and blend with a pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
  • In a small bowl, whisk the egg until yolk and white are combined. Stir in the vanilla and just enough of the 4 to 6 tablespoons whipping cream into the flour mixture with the fork until a soft dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  • Begin by dusting a cutting board or countertop with a light sprinkle of flour. Place the dough on the floured surface and roll it gently to coat in flour. To knead, fold the dough towards you, then push it away with a rocking motion using the heels of your hands. Rotate the dough a quarter turn and repeat this process 10 times until the dough feels springy and smooth.
  • Place the dough on an ungreased cookie sheet. Roll or pat the dough into an 8-inch round shape. Cut the dough into 8 wedges without separating them. Brush the wedges with 1 tablespoon whipping cream and sprinkle with sugar crystals before baking.
  • Bake for 14 to 16 minutes, or until a light golden brown. Transfer the scones to a cooling rack right away and gently separate the wedges. Enjoy while warm.
