Traditional Greek Easter butter cookies, known as koulourakia, are irresistibly sweet and flavorful.
Ingredients:
  • 200g butter, chopped, at room temperature
  • 215.00 gm caster sugar
  • 20.00 ml orange zest
  • 20.00 ml lemon zest
  • 4.40 gm vanilla extract
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 562.50 ml plain flour
  • 37.50 gm self-raising flour
  • Sesame seeds (or sugar), to sprinkle
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 180C (160C for fan-forced ovens) and line 2 baking trays with parchment paper.
  • Place butter and sugar in a bowl and beat with an electric mixer until creamy. Mix in vanilla and zest, then add egg yolks and beat until well combined.
  • Combine the milk and sifted flours, then bring the mixture together on a lightly floured surface.
  • Shape the mixture into a 20cm log, then twist it into your preferred scroll shapes and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Place onto baking trays and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until beautifully golden. Allow to cool completely on the trays before transferring to an airtight container for storage.
