Creamy green bean casserole topped with crispy fried onions, a comforting holiday party favorite.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 2 (16 ounce) packages frozen French-cut green beans
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1.5 cups shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
  • 2 cups French-fried onions, divided
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, smoothly melt butter. Add flour and stir gently until a paste forms. Immediately mix in green beans, sour cream, salt, and sugar before the paste thickens. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally for 7 to 10 minutes until green beans thaw and start to cook.
  • Pour the hot mixture into a large mixing bowl and fold in 1 cup of Cheddar cheese and 1 cup of fried onions until evenly combined. Transfer the mixture to a 2 1/2-quart casserole dish and sprinkle the remaining Cheddar and onions on top.
  • Bake in the oven until golden and bubbling, typically around 30 minutes.
