Crispy fried green bean fries served with creamy cucumber wasabi dip.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup ranch dressing
  • 0.25 cup peeled, seeded, and minced cucumber
  • 1 tablespoon whole milk
  • 1.5 teaspoons prepared horseradish
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Japanese wasabi powder
  • 0.125 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper, or more to taste
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 8 ounces fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon whole milk, or more as needed
  • 0.5 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 0.5 cup crushed French-fried onions
  • 0.75 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 8 cups vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
  • In a food processor, combine ranch dressing, cucumber, 1 tablespoon milk, horseradish, vinegar, wasabi powder, 1/8 teaspoon salt, and cayenne pepper. Blend until smooth. Transfer the dip to a bowl, cover, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  • In a pot, bring water and chicken broth to a boil. Add green beans and cook for about 10 minutes until they are slightly tender. Drain the green beans.
  • In a bowl, beat together an egg and 1 tablespoon of milk. In another bowl, mix bread crumbs, French-fried onions, 3/4 teaspoon salt, onion powder, black pepper, and garlic powder. Lastly, put flour in a separate bowl.
  • Preheat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 350°F (175°C).
  • Coat green beans in flour, then in egg-milk mixture, and finally in bread crumbs, ensuring they are evenly coated. Arrange on a plate in a single layer.
  • Fry the coated green beans in hot oil until crisp, about 1 minute 30 seconds per batch. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a paper towel-lined colander. Serve the green bean fries with dip.
