Grilled Brats with Mustard Relish

Elevate your sausage game with a unique grilled onion, applesauce, and mustard relish in just 30 minutes perfect for any gathering!
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cups apple cider, beer or water
  • 4 uncooked bratwurst (about 1 lb), thawed if frozen
  • 1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1 slice (1/2 inch thick) sweet onion
  • 1/3 cup chunky applesauce
  • 2 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
  • 4 brat or hot dog buns, split
Instructions:
  • Preheat a gas or charcoal grill. In a 2-quart saucepan, bring cider to a boil. Add bratwurst, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Brush the cut side of the onion with oil and place it on the grill over medium heat, oil side up. Grill for 9 to 12 minutes, turning once, until the onion is soft and the edges are golden brown. Remove from the grill and coarsely chop. Mix the grilled onion with applesauce and mustard in a small bowl and set aside.
  • Pat dry bratwurst with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Grill over medium heat with the grill covered for 6 minutes, flipping once, until beautifully browned.
  • Fill each bun with a bratwurst and a generous spoonful of relish.
