Spicy Italian sausage burgers with gooey mozzarella and sun-dried tomato mayo for a flavor-packed BBQ delight.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 pound bulk mild or hot Italian sausage
  • 2 tablespoons Progresso™ Italian-style bread crumbs
  • 6 slices (3/4 ounce each) mozzarella cheese
  • 12 slices Italian bread, 1/2 inch thick
  • 1/2 cup sun-dried tomato mayonnaise
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
Instructions:
  • Preheat your grill for direct heat. In a large bowl, combine beef, sausage, and bread crumbs. Form the mixture into 6 patties, each about 1/2 inch thick and 3 1/2 inches in diameter.
  • Grill the patties over medium heat, flipping once, and cook for 12 to 15 minutes until the meat thermometer reads 160° in the center. Top each patty with cheese and grill for an additional minute until the cheese melts. Toast bread slices on the side of the grill for 2 to 3 minutes, flipping once, until lightly toasted.
  • Spread mayonnaise on toasted bread slices. Layer lettuce, tomato, and patties on 6 slices of bread. Place remaining bread slices on top to complete the sandwiches.
