Elevate your Halloween party with spooky spider cupcakes adorned with candies and sugar.
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup black sanding sugar
  • 18 red miniature candy-coated chocolate candies
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and line 18 muffin cups with paper baking cups. In a large bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. In a medium bowl, whisk together buttermilk, oil, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, and the egg until well blended. Gently mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined. Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups.
  • Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then remove from pans and transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  • In a large bowl, whip butter, 1 cup powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla with an electric mixer until smooth. Slowly mix in the rest of the powdered sugar until combined. Frost the cupcakes and place a small spider-shaped stencil on top. Dust with black sanding sugar, then gently remove the stencil. Finish by adding a red candy in the center of the spider.
