Spice up Halloween with adorable owl cupcakes using Betty Crocker™ yellow cake mix and rich chocolate frosting.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Yellow Cake Mix (or your favorite flavor)
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix package
  • Black string licorice, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 2 tubs (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Chocolate Frosting
  • Black decorator sugar crystals
  • Large black gumdrops
  • Red cinnamon candies
  • Assorted candies
  • Chocolate wafer cookies
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans) and line 24 regular-size muffin cups with paper baking cups.
  • Prepare the cake mix as instructed on the box for 24 cupcakes. Allow the cupcakes to cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer them to a cooling rack. Let the cupcakes cool completely for about 30 minutes.
  • Create spooky spider cupcakes by gently pressing 4 licorice pieces into each side of 12 cupcakes, allowing about 1 1/2 inches to dangle over the edges. Generously frost the tops of the cupcakes with rich chocolate frosting and sprinkle with black decorator sugar crystals. Slice black gumdrops in half to make faces and press in half for eyes, using red cinnamon candies for the pupils.
  • Spread chocolate frosting on the remaining 12 cupcakes. Decorate with candies to make eyes, beaks, and feet. Cut chocolate wafer cookies into quarters and place them behind the eyes for ears, with the triangle points up. Cut wafer cookies into thirds for wings and place them on the cupcakes. Store loosely covered.
