Fall-themed slice-and-bake cookies with adorable owl faces featuring cashew beaks.
Ingredients:
  • 1.25 cups candy-coated milk chocolate pieces
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 24 ounces dry sugar cookie mix
  • 1 cup cashew halves
Instructions:
  • Combine 3/4 cup of candies and milk in a small saucepan. Melt over gentle heat, stirring until creamy. Remove from heat.
  • Follow the instructions on the cookie mixes. Mix melted chocolate into half of the dough. Shape the chocolate dough into two 12-inch long rolls that are about 1 inch thick. Wrap the dough in wax paper or foil and refrigerate until firm, approximately 2 hours.
  • Cut plain dough in half. Roll out each half on a floured surface to a 12 x 6 inch rectangle. Place a chocolate roll on the long edge. Roll up, gently pressing doughs together so the plain dough wraps around the chocolate roll. Repeat with the second half of the dough.
  • Wrap each roll individually in wax paper or foil, allowing them to chill for approximately 2 hours until they are firm. Preheat the oven to 375 F (190 C).
  • Slice each roll into thin 1/4 inch slices. Arrange 2 slices side by side on a greased baking sheet. Put one candy in the center of each chocolate slice for the eyes, and place a cashew where the slices meet to create a nose.
  • Bake the plain cookie until lightly browned, about 8 to 10 minutes. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 2 to 3 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
