Delicious picnic bread filled with ham, cheese, pimento, and olives - a crowd favorite!
Ingredients:
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110 degrees F)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped ham
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 (4 ounce) jar diced pimento peppers, drained
  • 0.5 cup black olives, drained and chopped
Instructions:
  • In a small mixing bowl, mix together yeast and warm water until creamy. Allow to stand for approximately 10 minutes.
  • Combine the yeast mixture with flour, egg, butter, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Mix until dough is formed. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth.
  • Oil a large mixing bowl, place the dough inside, and gently turn it to coat with the oil. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in volume, approximately 1 hour.
  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C. In a medium mixing bowl, mix together ham, cheese, pimento, and olives; set aside.
  • Punch down the dough and place it on a lightly floured surface. Shape it into a 10x14 inch rectangle. Cut 3/4 inch wide and 2-inch long strips along the two longer edges. Spread the filling in the center. Fold the short ends over the filling. Create a diagonally overlapping pattern with the strips. Transfer to a greased baking sheet, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise until doubled, around 40 minutes.
  • Bake until beautifully golden brown at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C), for about 20 to 30 minutes.
