Creamy scalloped potatoes with ham: A comforting classic made with layers of thinly sliced potatoes and a luscious sauce cooked to perfection. Perfect for a cozy dinner or as a decadent side dish for holiday meals. Enjoy the rich flavors and convenience of leftover goodness the next day!
Ingredients:
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (1/4 cup)
  • 3 tablespoons Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 6 medium peeled or unpeeled potatoes, thinly sliced (6 cups)
  • 1 1/2 cups cubed fully cooked ham
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and generously coat a 2-quart casserole dish with cooking spray.
  • Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat. Saute onion for about 2 minutes until tender. Stir in flour, salt, and pepper until smooth and bubbly. Remove from heat and stir in milk. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and let it boil for 1 minute.
  • Combine the potatoes and ham in a casserole dish, gently patting them down to create an even surface. Pour the sauce over the potato mixture and top with small pieces of the remaining tablespoon of butter.
  • Bake covered for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 1 to 1 hour and 10 minutes until the potatoes are tender. Allow it to stand for 5 to 10 minutes before serving to let the sauce thicken.
