Cozy hamburger stew with rich brown gravy - perfect for chilly nights on a budget.
Ingredients:
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 cups water, or as needed to cover
  • 3 pounds ground beef
  • 0.66666668653488 cup water
  • 2 (1.2 ounce) packages dry brown gravy mix
Instructions:
  • Combine the potatoes, onion, and garlic in a sizable pot, ensuring they are covered with water. Season generously with salt and pepper, then bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until potatoes are tender, for about 15 to 20 minutes.
  • As the potatoes cook, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown and crumble the ground beef in the skillet until cooked through, about 5 to 7 minutes. Discard any excess grease.
  • Cook the beef in the stew mixture over medium heat for 15 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, mix 2/3 cup water with gravy mix. Slowly stir this mixture into the stew. Simmer until thickened for about 20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
