Fluffy, tender, and slightly sweet Hawaiian bread recipe yields 3 loaves ideal for sharing, freezing, or French toast.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 2 (.25 ounce) envelopes active dry yeast
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup butter, melted
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions:
  • In a bowl, pour warm water and add yeast. Allow it to sit until a creamy foam forms, approximately 10 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, combine the yeast mixture, pineapple juice, sugar, eggs, melted butter, 1/2 cup water, vanilla, and ginger. Mix in half of the flour until no dry spots remain. Gradually add the rest of the flour, 1/2 cup at a time, stirring well after each addition to form a stiff dough.
  • Transfer the dough to a generously oiled large bowl, ensuring it is coated evenly. Cover with a towel and allow it to double in size in a warm spot for approximately 1 hour. While waiting, lightly grease three round cake pans and set them aside.
  • Gently press down dough and place on a generously floured surface. Divide dough into three equal pieces and shape into round loaves. Transfer loaves into cake pans, cover with a towel, and allow to rise in a warm spot until doubled, roughly 40 minutes. While waiting, preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake loaves in the hot oven until the top is golden brown and the bottom sounds hollow when tapped, approximately 25 to 30 minutes.
