Cozy apple crisp for two with whole wheat and maple syrup, using tart apples for a perfect sweet-tart balance.
Ingredients:
  • 2 small tart apples, cored and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 0.5 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 2 tablespoons rolled oats
  • 2 tablespoons whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and lightly grease two 8-ounce ramekins before placing them on a baking sheet.
  • Prepare a delicious filling by mixing together apples, maple syrup, lemon juice, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt in a bowl until well combined. Then, evenly distribute the mixture among the ramekins.
  • For the topping, mix oats, flour, maple syrup, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl until well combined. Add softened butter and mix until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the filling in the ramekins.
  • Bake the ramekins in the preheated oven until the apples are tender and the topping is lightly browned, about 25 to 30 minutes. Allow to cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
