Savor the nostalgia of mom's home cooking with this comforting dish, best served with fluffy mashed potatoes.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup finely chopped onion
  • 0.5 cup finely chopped celery
  • 0.25 cup finely chopped green pepper
  • 1 cup Heinz Tomato Ketchup
  • 1.5 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 cup soft, fresh breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg, slightly beaten
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon pepper
Instructions:
  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). 2. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté onion, celery, and pepper until softened, approximately 5 minutes. 3. Stir in ketchup. 4. Take the pan off the heat and split the sauce mixture in half.
  • Mix together half of the sauce with ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper until just combined. Shape the mixture gently into a 9 x 5-inch (2 L) loaf pan that has been lightly greased. Bake for 1 hour or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C) on an instant-read thermometer.
  • Allow the meat loaf to rest for 5 minutes while you gently reheat the remaining sauce. Finally, slice the meat loaf and serve it with the warm, flavorful sauce on the side.
