Idaho Inspired Buttermilk Marinated Steak Nuggets: Tender steak strips coated in seasoned flour and fried to crispy perfection.
Ingredients:
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons grill seasoning, such as McCormick Montreal Steak Seasoning
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 pounds boneless beef sirloin steak, cut into 2 1/2 x 1/4 inch strips
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 cups canola oil for deep frying
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the egg, buttermilk, grill seasoning, and 1/2 cup of flour until smooth. Add the beef and mix until evenly coated. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate to marinate for at least 2 hours.
  • In a large bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups flour with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Coat the steak strips with the seasoned flour mixture, then arrange them on a baking sheet. Freeze for 1 hour to overnight until firm.
  • Preheat oil to 370 degrees F (185 degrees C) in a deep fryer or cast iron skillet.
  • Place frozen steak pieces in sizzling hot oil and fry until beautifully golden on the outside, around 5 minutes. Avoid overcrowding the oil and ensure not to thaw the steak strips before frying. Once golden and crispy, transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
