Total Time:
Rich buttermilk-sour cream bread with plump raisins and aromatic caraway seeds.
Ingredients:
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.66666668653488 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup margarine
  • 5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons caraway seed
  • 2.5 cups raisins
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 3 tablespoons sour cream
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Rub in butter or margarine using fingers or a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Add raisins and caraway seeds, combine well, then stir in eggs, buttermilk, and sour cream. If the mixture seems dry, incorporate milk. Transfer the batter into two greased and lightly floured loaf pans or a frying pan.
  • Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 45-60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted.
