Anise-flavored Italian cookies topped with sweet icing - a perfect crowd-pleaser for any occasion!
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon anise extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon anise extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) for perfect baking results.
  • In a bowl, use an electric mixer to combine butter and sugar until creamy. Add eggs, vanilla extract, and anise extract and mix well. In a separate bowl, combine flour and baking powder, then stir into the butter mixture until well blended.
  • Take a ping pong-sized dough ball and roll it into a rope between your hands. Connect the ends and twist into a figure 8 shape. Transfer to an ungreased baking sheet. Repeat with the rest of the dough.
  • Bake in preheated oven until edges are golden, about 10 minutes. Then cool on baking sheet for 1 minute before transferring to wire rack to cool completely.
  • Slowly blend milk and confectioners' sugar for the icing, then mix in the anise and vanilla extracts.
  • Take the cooled cookies and dip them face-down into the icing before placing them on wax paper or a wire rack.
