Elevate steak sandwiches with Italian flair using pesto, fresh tomatoes, and melted mozzarella.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 beef cube steaks (6 oz each)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup basil pesto
  • 4 kaiser rolls, split (toasted in oven if desired)
  • 4 slices (about 3/4 oz each) mozzarella cheese
  • 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
Instructions:
  • In a 12-inch nonstick skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Sauté the onion in the butter for 3 to 4 minutes until tender, stirring frequently, then push to the side of the skillet.
  • Place the beef steaks in a hot skillet and generously season with salt and pepper. Sear for 5 to 8 minutes, flipping once, until they reach medium doneness at 160°F.
  • Spread the vibrant and flavorful pesto generously on the freshly cut sides of the buns. Then carefully stack the succulent steaks, rich cheese, crispy onion, and juicy tomato inside the buns, creating a mouthwatering culinary masterpiece.
