Japanese chicken wings - crispy, butter-fried and baked in tangy garlic soy sauce for a sweet, sticky treat.
Ingredients:
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour for coating
  • 3 pounds chicken wings
  • 1 cup butter
  • 0.5 cup white vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder, or to taste
Instructions:
  • Heat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Transfer the beaten egg to a small bowl and the flour to a shallow bowl.
  • Cut the wings in half, then coat each piece first in egg, followed by a coating of flour.
  • In a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat, melt butter until sizzling. Fry wings coated in the butter until golden brown on both sides. Transfer the wings to a shallow roasting pan.
  • Prepare the sauce by combining sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, water, salt, and garlic powder in a medium bowl until well mixed. Pour the sauce over the wings.
  • Roast the wings in the preheated oven for 30-45 minutes, while generously basting them with sauce. Ensure wings are fully cooked by checking if an instant-read thermometer inserted near the bone reads 165°F (74°C).
