Indulge in a fragrant berry crisp with caramelized butter for a mouthwatering experience.
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 lemon, zested
  • lemon, juiced
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups frozen mixed berries, thawed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon baking powder
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and generously butter a 9-inch pie dish.
  • In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat until it turns a golden brown color, becomes fragrant, foamy, and develops browned bits, which should take 5 to 10 minutes. Let it cool down to room temperature for about 15 minutes before using.
  • In a bowl, mix together white sugar, cornstarch, lemon zest, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Gently combine with thawed berries, then transfer the mixture to a greased pie dish.
  • In a separate bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add 1/2 cup of browned butter and stir until the mixture is evenly moist and crumbly. Spread this mixture evenly over the berry mixture.
  • Bake in the oven until beautifully golden, for 35-40 minutes. Cool briefly before serving.
